Every Wednesday Night in March:  Prayer and Worship in the Shed

On Sunday mornings as we prepare for Easter, we are exploring a particular Christian practice that is of great interest to both those who participate in the Christian faith and those who have no faith at all.  The practice that we are exploring is PRAYER.  Ask almost anyone you meet if they pray and their answer will be – Yes.  Ask them if they have any idea what happens when they pray and how prayer connects you to the heart of God and their answer will be – No.  My desire is to change the latter response to – Yes, between now and Easter.

So on Sunday mornings during Lent we will teach and explore the richness of prayer.  On each of the Wednesday nights in March we will meet in the Shed for one hour (7PM – 8PM / child care provided) to worship and enter into a time of prayer that will reflect what we are learning and growing into as a Church family.

I hope you'll join us!  +TJ

This Sunday: Confirmation and Membership at St. Peter’s

What is confirmation?  The outline of faith for the Anglican Church (called a Catechism) defines Confirmation as follows:
Q:  What is Confirmation?
A:  Confirmation is the rite [service] in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer …to live into this commitment.
Q:  What is required of those to be confirmed?
A:  It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are instructed in the Christian Faith, are penitent for their sins, and are ready to affirm their confessions of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Confirmation is an opportunity to express, in the context of our worship, a confession of faith in Jesus Christ and then to receive prayers to be strengthened to faithfully live in a relationship with Jesus.  This Sunday a number of our students will be confirmed.  They have been meeting on Sunday night since January to consider their faith along with the author of their faith, Jesus.  It will be a joy and a privilege to pray with them and encourage them as they take this step of faith.

During the same service we will be praying for those adults who have recently gone through our newcomers class that focuses on the history of Christianity and, in particular, the mission and heart of St. Peter’s Church.  From this class, several participants have made a commitment to become members of our Church.  We will be recognizing them and praying for them, as well this Sunday.

Just to celebrate all this, we will also be enjoying some lowcountry cooking for all ages immediately following the service.

So please plan to join us this Sunday for worship, food, and new and deepening friendships.
